It is easy to forget and neglect our faithful four legged friends when your new baby arrives. Once they were the centre of your world, then suddenly demoted. It can be rough on your pets.
It saddens me to see the number of dogs and cats who are given up for adoption because their owner’s feel they no longer have time for them (when they have kids). I am surprise to this day, how many people who just DON’T think when before they adopt or buy a pet. I could go on and on, but that’s not what I want to blog about today.
Frisbee, my Border Collie needs his exercise and goes for two walks a day (whatever the weather). And it can be a bit of a hassle (at the beginning) especially with a baby. But it’s worth it!
Having to walk the dog means, we have to get out of the house. The change of scenery and fresh air does wonders. Plus the dog and I get our much needed daily exercise. I put Bubs in a stroller with a storm cover or UV cover, depending on the weather and we’re out there. Your dog will love you for it and more importantly, it benefits everyone. It’s a win/ win!
I also have a 3 legged Burmese, who wants nothing but to be loved. And since having Bubs, and a bit embarrassed to admit but he has become a bit of a 2nd class citizen. Slinky used to have free reign around the house as to where he sat and slept – on the couch, the bed, on our laps … anywhere. Now he is restricted to one room place in terms of sleep. He was bit confused and stressed in the beginning but adjusted eventually. Like the dog, we just had to set aside a bit of time for him. All he really wants from us, is a bit of attention, a good scratch behind the ears and bits of chicken when we’re having some. He really is a good cat!
Although, both the dog and cat seem to have accepted and adjusted well (not to mention extremely patient) to the newest member of the family. We try not to push our luck.
Remember they need you! They are apart of your family!
